Summer Garden Fun!
31 May 2018
As the days are getting longer and temperatures are (mostly) beginning to rise, it’s clear that summer is on its way. This is when you get to reap the rewards of having a garden, making all the effort you’ve put into it worthwhile. Here are some ways to make the most of your garden this summer.
Garden games
It’s always great to see the kids playing outside in the garden rather than cooped up inside. Garden games make it easier to entice them outdoors, but they’re just as fun for adults. Whether you go all out with a trampoline or table tennis table, or keep it simpler with swingball, football or badminton, spending time playing games together in the sunshine is one of the best ways to make the most of your garden. All that vitamin D and fresh air is good for your health too!
Barbecues
Everyone loves a barbecue in the summer. The smell alone is enough to make you hungry, and sitting around in the garden sharing food and drinks in the sunshine is a wonderful way to catch up with friends or to spend time together as a family. You can keep it simple with burgers and sausages in buns or go all out with a proper feast and all the salad trimmings - whatever suits your style.
Night time fun
With the days staying light for much longer summer is the perfect time to enjoy your garden at night time too. Eating dinner al fresco, toasting marshmallows on a fire afterwards and sharing a drink on the patio as the sun sets in the distance will make you feel like you’re on holiday even when you’re at home. There’s something about sunshine and long lazy evenings that just make it that much easier to relax and unwind.
You can make the nights last even longer by installing lights in your garden, whether they be fairy lights strung up around the patio, solar lights in the garden itself, or even a chiminea or patio heater to give off warmth as well as a nice glow. Kids love the novelty of being outside after dark and, as long as the rain stays away, the warmer weather makes this much easier. If you can stay up late enough you can even do some stargazing in your garden!
Garden furniture
Having comfortable furniture to sit on will make it that much more likely that you’ll make the most of your garden during the summer months. There are so many options, from the traditional garden table and chairs or a picnic bench to eat at, to a swinging seat or lounger to relax on. If your garden is big enough it can be nice to have both an eating area and a relaxing area - think about where your garden gets the last of the sun and set out your garden furniture accordingly to make the most of it.
